Bulgaria Warehouse Steel Mezzanine Platform Project with 222 Sqm Space and 700kg Load Capacity

Bulgaria Warehouse Steel Mezzanine Platform Project with 222 Sqm Space and 700kg Load Capacity

2026-10-08

Project Background

A fast-growing third-party logistics (3PL) company based in Sofia, Bulgaria, was running out of usable storage space in its existing distribution center. With e-commerce volumes rising across the Balkan region, the client urgently needed to increase pallet and carton storage capacity without relocating or constructing a new building.

Project Challenge

  • Limited floor area with a high ceiling that was largely unused
  • Rising warehousing costs and land prices in the Sofia industrial zone
  • Need for a robust, high-load platform able to support heavy carton and equipment loads
  • Tight timeline to expand capacity before the peak logistics season

Our Solution: A Custom Steel Mezzanine Platform

Our engineering team carried out a full site survey, took precise field measurements and delivered a custom-designed, bolt-together steel mezzanine platform with a total footprint of approximately 222 square meters and a floor load-bearing capacity of 700 kg per square meter. The platform creates an entirely new elevated working and storage floor above the existing warehouse area, effectively doubling the usable space.

Engineering Highlights

  • High-strength steel structure — square-tube columns (200*200*6.0) combined with H-shaped main beams (HN396*199) deliver excellent rigidity and allow wide, clear spans.
  • Optimized secondary framing — a mix of C300*90*3.0 channels and HN248*124 H-beams balances load distribution with material efficiency.
  • Reinforced flooring — press-lock floor panels with a single stiffener provide a flat, durable walking surface rated for 700 kg/m².
  • Enhanced stability — multiple sets of back pull (tie) rods were installed to significantly increase the lateral stability of the platform.
  • Safety first — a full 1,200 mm high guardrail runs along the front edge, with a dedicated staircase for safe access.

Installation & Results

The platform was prefabricated, shipped and assembled on site using a modular bolt-together system, requiring no welding at the customer's facility. Installation was completed with minimal disruption to the client's daily operations.

  • Added approx. 222 m² of valuable storage space without expanding the building footprint
  • Enabled a two-tier storage layout and improved picking efficiency
  • Supported heavy carton and equipment loads with a 700 kg/m² rating
  • Delivered and installed within the client's tight pre-season schedule

Conclusion

This Bulgaria steel mezzanine platform project demonstrates how a well-engineered, custom warehouse platform can turn unused vertical height into productive storage — a fast, cost-effective alternative to new construction. From layout design to structural fabrication and on-site assembly, our team provided a complete turnkey solution tailored to the client's exact requirements.
